- History of black tea production dates back to the early Meiji period (1870s). Records indicate that by 1877, approximately 3 tonnes of black tea had already been exported.
- Even with the same origin and the same cultivar, Japanese black tea, or “wakocha”, can have significantly different flavours and aromas due to variations in tea processing techniques at different tea estates.
